Google Chrome brings ‘Performance issue alerts’ to desktop

Google Chrome is enhancing its performance with a new update designed to optimize resource management for users. This rollout for desktop users introduces features like “Performance issue alerts” and an improved Memory Saver mode. With these updates, Chrome will actively detect performance concerns and provide actionable solutions.

The “Performance issue alerts” feature will notify users when a specific tab is consuming excessive resources, which can slow down the overall browsing experience. When such an alert appears, users will have the option to click “Fix now,” enabling Chrome to take corrective measures to optimize the problematic tab.

Additionally, the Memory Saver mode, which debuted in 2022, has been revamped with new customizable settings. Users can now select from three options: “Standard,” “Balanced,” and “Advanced” Memory Saver modes. Each setting adjusts how aggressively Chrome manages memory for inactive tabs, allowing for a more tailored performance based on individual preferences and system capabilities.

Beyond these primary features, the update also brings several enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. Users can now utilize visual memory usage indicators to monitor resource consumption on a per-tab basis, complete with a hover preview card for quick insights. Furthermore, there’s now an option to customize the appearance of inactive tabs, giving users the choice to keep them minimized or visually distinct, thereby improving organization while browsing.
